The main point/s of the designer’s essay in your opinion and why you think it’s important.

The essay’s main point is the utilization of the design in order to uphold human dignity and advocate for human rights because these two are the most important aspects of humanity. This is important because this design can be beneficial to human rights and dignity. This does not only serve aesthetic purposes, but this may also solve moral and ethical problems and places man in the center or the main factor to be considered in a designer’s work (Buchanan 141-142).

This human-centered design does not end in merely ergonomics and utility, but continuously works to uphold and strengthen man’s dignity (Buchanan 142). This design should not be looked at in a one-dimensional aspect because it can also deal with serious issues of life and may be further used as a tool for change in the socio-political affairs.

Your favorite quote from the essay and why

“Design is the way we create all of the artifacts and communications that serve human beings” (Buchanan 143). This is a good quote is related to the human-centered design, which further proves the usefulness of the design in human life and how its utilization may affect the way the world perceives human dignity and human rights. This quote supports the belief that all aspects of design, if put in proper prospective, can bring about positive change in the world.

In what ways does this essay connect to your own process/practice?

The essay’s main point brought the realization on the importance of my practice in upholding human dignity and human rights (Buchanan 141).  Through this essay, design was given a new place in the lives of humans, as a tool for great socio-political changes and not merely for the purposes of beauty. Thus, as a 20th century designer, I shall be using human dignity and human rights as the main perspectives of every design I will be making. Because I believe that a design that is not rooted from these aspects of humanity may be considered inefficient and futile designs.
