In the democratic style of leadership, everyone is given the oppurtuinity to put their ideas in. A democratic leader must be able to listen to others and accept their input. They are not reckless leaders who impusively act. Sometimes the democratic style can be slow in the decsion making process because there are usually several people that are involved. A democratic leader must be able to chose the appropriate decision and report it back to the group with unity from everyone.

Situations are always constantly changing, this is where democratic leadership becomes most effective by being able to adapt to find a better way to get things accomplished. Teams who use democratic style will bring out the best aspects of the team. Instead of conforming to one person’s ways of doing things or beliefs, they capatilize their skills and talents by discussing how the problem should be handled based off of their personal experiences. I chose the movie 10,000 BC to show democratic leadership.
The movie obviously takes place in the year 10,000 BC and the main plot is a man in search of his tribesmen that got captured. The main character in the story D’leh is in search of his love Evolet and his other tribesmen, who were kidnapped by a group of men who were recruinting slaves to do their master’s work. D’leh and three other men set out in search for their tribesmen. At the beginning of their travels D’leh is not the leader, he is more careless and reckless.
As their travels go on, the meet and gather many tribes to fight the men who took their people. When this happens D’leh takes charge as their leader. After D’leh recruits hundreds of tribesmen to fight the “Almighty”, the one who is responsible for the men kidnapping all of the caputured tribesmen, he becomes discouraged because they are highly outnumbered. Tic’Tic, one of the men from his tribe that D’leh journied with, advises him to sneak into the campground and recruit the slaves to fight with them because that is the only reason they were so outnumbered.
D’leh shows democratic leadership by taking the advice of Tic’Tic and sneaking in to their campground and encouraging the slaves to fight with him against the “Almighty” for their freedom and Evolet! Since he listened to Tic’Tic’s advice, he recruited hunderds of more people to join him in their fight. Without listening to him, he would not have been able defeat the “Almighty” and free all of the slaves. D’leh’s character at the beginning of the movie was not one that would have shown democratic leadership, he showed more of an autocratic style.
This style is impulsive and does not take anyone’s advice. As the movie proceeds on, his character becomes aware that one must listen to the advice of others. This movie is a great way to show autocratic versus democratic style. When D’leh showed autocratic styles, his plans failed and he lost more tribesmen. When he showed democratic leadership style, their plan succeeded and they freed all of the people that were captured and made in to slaves. I believe democratic style is the best leadership styles out of the three.
One must be able to listen to others and accept their ideas and thoughts about different problems. Everyone has been in different situations and some people have a better idea on how to solve problems than others.
