This case is well known in the United States as well as around the world due to the horrific nature of the story. This case fits into the child abuse region, and sursprisingly after inhuman living conditions and constant torture; today Debra Luptak is a highly successful businesswoman, and the author of three books as well as many more on the way. The nightmare began when Debra was born. She was “The Devil’s Daughter” as her schizophrenic mother called her.

Her mother stated that her child was from the devil in a family where she wanted only male children. Sexually abused herself as a child, Debra’s mother began to abuse her daughter at birth, putting her crib in a confining closet at the back of the house. She was convinced that her newborn daughter Debra was going to destroy her marriage and would end up having sex with her husband. Debra, being the oldest daughter, took the full brunt of her Mother’s abuse, although younger sister Danielle was also badly mistreated when she was born.

They were both routinely subjected to deprivation and homicidal rage, yet Debra was her Mother’s main target. Within days of being force fed adult sedatives, Debra fell into a coma, losing sensory perceptions. Her Father found her on the floor of her closet reeking of urine and feces in a comatose state. She was rushed to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, where she spent several weeks recovering from her Mother-inflicted drug overdose.

The overdose was reported to social services, which finally stepped in and took serious action against the family, telling them that Debra would be placed in a home in southern Missouri for a year until the family decided whether or not they wanted her or could take care of her. Debra eventually was returned to her family after her one year stay at a foster home and the abuse continued the day after she arrived back home. In 1967 after her parents divorced, Debra’s mother packed up the kids and moved to Arizona to live with a man who owned a ranch out in the middle of the Palo Verde desert, about fifty miles west of Phoenix.

Life at the ranch in Arizona also included other forms of abuse for the young daughters, including forcing them by cattle prod to scrub the bathtub in the trailer, forcing them to eat horse manure and dog food while the boys ate Oreo cookies and making them walk on hot metal in the blazing desert heat without shoes as a daily punishment. Other forms of abuse at the ranch included burning the girls with cigarettes, their mother wrapping her finger around her daughters’ hair and yanking chunks of it out, and pouring hot pepper spice or paprika on the girls’ private parts in an attempt to destroy her daughter’s female parts.

Debra and Danielle became desperate to find ways to escape , and they were finally able to run away. The police became involved, and the girls’ rebelliousness eventually got to be too much for the mother and step-father who got tired of the girls and before Debra’s 6th birthday she and Danielle were dumped at a social service center to begin new lives in a series of foster homes. Unfortunatley Debra’s Mother was never arrested for her brutality towards her daughters for the simple reason that no one ever pressed charges.

In my personal opinion, I think that the courts should have pressed charges against Debra`s mother for the neglet she inflicted on Debra and her sister. Debra experienced all main forms of abuse; Child neglect, Physical abuse, Sexual abuse, and Emotional abuse. I strongly feel that its wrong for her mother to get away with such acts and have no consiquences for her actions as well as her step-dad and biological father. How does a person get away with forcing a little girl to sit with strapped arms and legs to a potty chair for hours, and trying to get her to urinate by forcing a syringe up her vagina.

Also causing long term affects of a deformation in a leg by being put in a straight jacket by her mindless mother who thought Debra was sexually touching herself, but was really scratching the sores that were caused from days without being changed out of a used diaper. Even though nobody pressed charges maybe one of the reasons is that nobody knew about these actions, still even if their mother divorced their father he should`ve went to the police. It`s unbelievable that Debra survived as well as her sister Danielle, and astonishing that their brothers didn’t do anything to stop it or go for help.

Makes me think what “evil” thing that Debra’s mother told the boys about their sisters to not help them. From my perspective on this case, I wonder why after Debra came out and told her horrifying story, that nobody pressed charges afterword? Nobody should be put through that type of life, not even a dog for that matter. I bet if they had a dog, or any animal that it would be treated far better than Debra and Danielle were treated. In conclusion of this case study of Debra Luptak and her child abuse by her negligant mother, I am appauled with the decisions that have been made by the courts.

From this rocky experiance growing up, Debra figured out her life and has gotten married and had four wonderful boys. She accomplished alot in her life afterwards, also making an apperance on the famous “Jenny JonesShow” confronting her mother on why she did it. There was no real answer “why” from this. Debra says “Leave your memories buried beneath the dirt, Share your gift with those you inspire, and Dive into life with your gift of strength.
