Practicing the Presence of Jesus. This is no little effort. In the really beginning, I find a commonalty between myself and the grownups that Mark Yaconelli is speaking about. I am sometimes dying around adolescents. I was one time one of them merely a few old ages back ; nevertheless, I have grown and changed and adolescents are non the same as they ever used to be. This has happened because Mark says that “ one beginning of [ these ] grownup anxiousnesss is the turning separation between young person and grownups ” ( pg 33 ) . We come from two wholly different universes and the lone manner to repair that is to reconnect with immature people. Be present with them and present Christ to them.

One of the biggest battles for me and for several leaders in the Church is that we want to take the immature people that we have and do them into small versions of ourselves. We want them to follow the strength in religion and apprehension of philosophy that we have as grownups. The world is, they are n’t ready for that yet. I have a strong passion for allowing immature people remain immature people and leting them to construct their ain religion.

After reading the first chapter, I have this thrust to get down this ministry of oppugning and unorthodoxy in which immature people are allowed to oppugn their religion. The lone manner that religion is of all time traveling to turn and beef up is if it is made personal through inquiries, challenges, unorthodoxy at times, and yes, even interrupting the Ten Commandments. I am non stating that our immature people should be able to run around free able to make whatever they want whenever they want. I merely do n’t believe we should be turning our workss in the nursery ; they should be let out into the natural state. Our immature people are sing the mission field at its highest convulsion ; should we be coercing them to merely disregard everything they are being told and sing outside of the church walls?

Christian life without outlooks. Young people have so many outlooks to populate up to every bit good as the Church leaders. Church leaders are expected to learn immature people good ethical motives and how to act in a respectful mode. Young people are expected to travel to church on a regular basis, two or three times a hebdomad if you are truly a good individual. Mark truly talks about populating a life without outlooks. God has done everything that we of all time need to make for us and now He has no outlooks of us.

“ The truth is that most of us who seek to portion Jesus ‘ life with immature people are non great plan decision makers, entertainers, clinical psychologists, or household counsellors. ” ( pg 67 ) . I will stop that quotation mark at that place even though Mark goes on to a deeper point about life honest and reliable lives. This is something that I have learned the difficult manner with fieldwork. I can non be that superman coder with immature people. Well, O.K. , yes I can seek ; but that is n’t what reaches immature people. The efficiency of sharing the Gospel and love of Christ is non found in how good you plan plans and lead lock-ins, it is found in the genuineness of relationships.

This following chapter on being a good receiving system was truly hard for me to read. Mark had several really good and challenging remarks. The biggest thing that I struggle with in my ministry is that I am ever looking for a manner to infix the Gospel. If I were speaking with a young person about something that happened to them during their hebdomad, I would be partly listening, and partly seeking out that “ insert Gospel lesson here ” button. Mark stresses how of import it is to be present. It is of import that we as Church leaders do n’t seek to “ repair ” our immature people, but be at that place to listen to their battles. Show them love and possibly they will see Christ.

In his following chapter, Mark talks about make fulling our ain armored combat vehicles. This is of import particularly for Church leaders who are invariably forcing out Gospel but ne’er truly taking the clip to have it. One of the large things that struck me during this chapter is how much Mark indirectly talks about some of the religious subjects. These religious subjects are something that I will pattern from now until infinity because they are honoring for me and make full my love armored combat vehicle to overrun on others.

I have an wholly new mentality on supplication after reading this chapter. The narrative of the aged lady and the young person group made me rupture up ( and it takes a batch to do me make that ) . This will be something that I will take on internship. It is a great usage of inter-generational discipleship. There is n’t even much interaction amongst the two coevalss, it is all through supplication and God does mighty things through supplication.

This following chapter reminded me of the vocal “ Give Me Your Eyes ” by Brandon Heath. Brandon negotiations about all the broken people and how we all, including himself, merely walk right by them and go on traveling about our ain concern. Mark says that seeing is our first linguistic communication. When we see immature people we should see through all the surface things. Mark goes into a narrative about a high school function drama that he did. The terminal of the narrative in which one of the young person, Jake, a usual problem shaper athlete type young person, steps up and merely sits at that place while the one young person is inveighing into him all these inquiries about Christianity. Sometimes we should n’t be so speedy on the defensive and merely be present to listen to concerns.

Practicing the presence of Jesus. After reading this book, I now have a deeper apprehension on how to make youth ministry. The figure one thing that immature people need is the presence of Jesus, the presence of the church is excessively curtailing. This book will be on my packing list when I take off for Marquette, Michigan this summer.
