P3,Whatever job you want you need skills and qualities for it, this helps you with your job without this it would make it hard to know what you’re doing and hard to adapt to the job. Nursery teachers look after young children from 3 years old to 5 years old. For a nursery teacher the skills are qualities you need are.. Understand the stages of child development- This is very important, you need to know for a number of reasons. Nursery teachers need to be able to see the child’s level of ability.

Abilities can differentiate at preschool age and an effective nursery teacher will meet each child level and guide them on their pathway to achievement. It is also important so they know understand the children that they are working with especially if they are responsible for taking care of them and teaching them. If you wanted to instruct a child and you didn’t understand how to do because you don’t understand what’s going through their mind (stages of development) then the nursery teacher would struggle to get them to do as they are told.

The nursery teacher needs to know what’s normal for a child’s development so that if a child is not developing normally it can be noticed and something can be done about it to help make the child better. By understanding the child’s development this means the teacher can understand what the child needs to grow and flourish and how they think. If a nursery teacher does not understand the stages of child development another example of a problem could be if the child is having tantrums, then because the nursery teacher doesn’t understand what’s normal for a child they would have difficulty in calming the child down from their tantrum.

If you were working with teenagers you wouldn’t treat them like children because they are much more developed than children so for example they don’t necessarily need the constant attention that children do. By understanding the range of stages of child development and development in other people e. g. teachers it allowed you to work with different people of different ages which is good because you wouldn’t treat people all the same.

Everyone has different needs and are at different stages which is why it is important to be able to maintain a level of understanding of people at different stages of development. Specific Qualifications including English, Math and Science GCSE (A-C)- The grades and qualifications do vary from different nursery teacher jobs, but a good nursery teacher should have all of these. Having English, Math and Science GCSE shows you have the skills and ability to communicate this effectively down to the child.

For an example if you had an ‘E’ in English or Math then it shows lack of skill so you would probably find it difficult to help the child with writing, spelling, numbers, calculations, saying words properly, which is something a nursery teacher needs to be able to do to communicate effectively and help the child make progress. Depending on the age of the person this skill could be used to teach at a higher level or a lower level, if you were a student at college studying English the teacher would most likely need higher than a ‘C’ to teach the subject because of the level it’s at.

But because nursery teaching only teaches the basic stuff then they do not need to have a really high grade, but even if they do it helps. Some nursery teacher jobs also require IT GCSE/Achievement, technology is changing and nursery teacher would need to be able to understand how to use technology so they can show the children how to use it. For example if they didn’t know how to use a computer, then how would they do the register, they could write it down on paper but it could easily get lost which makes it unreliable.

Also a nursery teacher could need NNEB, NVQ3, B-TEC in Nursery nursing, GNVQ 4, ITT(Initial teachers training so you know what you’re doing), QTS, advanced GNVQ, it can also depend on which sector it is in, for example if it is private then the nursery teachers are likely to be more qualified, because they being paid more money to teach children, more money generally means the standard of teaching should be higher. Private education is good for children because they develop a better level of understanding and can learn quicker.

To be a nursery teacher of have any contact job with children you must not have a criminal record, it has to be clean, no employer would want a criminal working with children for health and safety especially if the criminal was a paedophile. And last of all work experience, you don’t necessarily need this but it helps a lot because it helps you to realise what you have got yourself in for, what it’s like to look after young children.

If you did end up working as a nursery teacher, you could tell the child’s parent you had work experience before this and it would make them feel reassured that you know what you’re doing and that you are interested in it. The more experience you have the better you become at the job, better at problem solving, better with communication, better understanding of the child’s needs etc. Having these skills shows you have the ability and knowledge to work with children, without this you would seriously struggle.

And some nursery’s require you to have a driving licence for travelling, so if you haven’t got that then you can’t get the job. Excellent communication skills- Communicating effectively is about being able to well talk with one another and to be able to get their point across and verbal skills. For example young children often go of track very easily and find it hard to express their thoughts and feelings in words so nursery teachers need to be able to communicate well so they can get there point across to help them focus and stay on track.

If the nursery teacher didn’t do this the children would be off track. Children often copy others, so if the teacher if communicating well then the child could pick up on this which helps them to communicate better themselves. Children want to be listened to so the better you are at communicating this will enable you to assess their abilities and interests and plan for their next steps in learning and development. You will also get to know them well and then you can support their emotional needs.

But it’s not just about being able to communicate well with children, the nursery teacher needs to be able to communicate well with the parents, parents need reassurance that the teacher knows what is best for their child so they can update them on how well the child is doing, if the child needs helps or has a problem. And also the teacher can get the know the parents better so they can develop trust with each other. By communicating well with the parents this helps receive the best educational foundation for the child and helps create a positive first educational experience which helps when the child moves up the primary school.

Communication is used different with different people, in a child’s case they need learn and be supported more so than any other person because they are young and a lot of things could be going through their mind. If for example you were in a business meeting and you had a new great idea you wanted to show everyone then instead of going up to them or sitting with them to talk like you would with a child, you would use a different method of communing your point across like, using diagrams, doing a presentation.

If you used this with a child they may get confused so this is why communication is used differently with different people. Problem Solving- A nursery teacher needs to be able to know how to solve problems, if they didn’t know this then everything would be still and stay the same, meaning no progress is made. If a child accidently ‘let it out’ and the teacher wasn’t sure what to do, then that would leave the parent of child to clean it all up when they pick the child up from school which could be annoying for the parents because they expect the nursery teacher to have dealt with it, and its unhygienic.

Another example is if a child is arguing with another child over something petty which tends to happen a lot because children love to irritate each other, the teacher needs to be able to need to be able to solve this problem in an orderly manner, by not blaming either child. By being a good problem solve it shows maturity and that you know how to work around things, in benefits the child but also the parents to.

The nursery teacher will also need to be able to solve problems with parents, perhaps the parent has a query or concern like the child is being very rude and having a lot tantrums, they may just want some advice or the teacher to work with child at the nursery to teach them how to behave properly. Problem solving is used differently with other people because not all problems are the same, some may be minor meaning they are small and only need simple solution. And some problems are big, you need a solution weather its small or big solution, its needs depth so people know how to solve it, small problems don’t need depth because they are small.

And also it could the wrong solution or irrelevant to the problem, for example a child is going through a stage where they are having lots of tantrums, another person decides to go to the doctors and finds out they need medicine, you wouldn’t give medicine to the child with the tantrums, you would work around it and teach the child to stop it, so this is why problem solving is used differently. Attentive- Young children need constant attention and supervision, they make lots of mistakes without realising so they need to learn to stop and not make it into a habit which is all part of their development.

They must also be able to be attentive to each child even when they are changing nappies or feeding one child. They should also provide equal attention to each child in the room, so the other children do not feel left out or ignored, this helps to encourage their growth and development. This is important because children need to learn what’s wrong and right, if you just leave a child and let them suffer then they will never learn and this will raise further problems in the future, so you need to get it right well their young so they don’t pick up any bad habits.

Nursery teachers need to be attentive at first but at the same time teach them why they don’t always need attention, this helps them develop an independent mind so they get it right the next time. This skill needs to be used differently with different people, young children need it the most because they are young, everything seems big to them, and they may often be confused, older children do not need the constant care because they have been past that stage and learnt from their mistakes which makes them more independent and able to do things by themselves.

And it’s the same idea for teenagers as well, they’ve been through that stage, learnt from their mistakes so they can do things without the constant need of attention. The same attentiveness should not be used the same with everyone because then everyone would be the same. children and teenagers would not learn or develop in their minds properly, and wouldn’t be very independent, there would be no progress.

Organisational and time-management skills- For any teaching job you need to be organised, this includes being on time, getting work in, getting work marked bring the right equipment, being tidy, you need to keep work tidy so if it is at the end of the day, the child can work on it tomorrow, also if working needs marking (like spellings), it is good to keep in one neat and tidy pile so things don’t get messed up. Also if you have a lesson plan, and you lose it then you spend ages looking for it, you end up leaving the children which means they get distracted and lose concentration.

The teacher must plan and organise both fun and educational activities and take care of children’s personal needs, if you hadn’t done this for whatever reason, not much progress would be made during the day. A nursery teacher should be showing a good example to children, if they are unorganised then this can effect the child because the child is watching and copying because they think what your doing is right, so it just gives them a bad example, and they could pick up this bad habit which wouldn’t be good in the future when they go to primary school, like turning up without pen and paper etc, all signs of being unorganised.

Being organised is used similarly with different people, but just the amount they are organised, if it was a student who handed in coursework you would need to be very organised because there is a lot students and the work could easily get misplaced. By acting organised the nursery teacher is setting a good example to the children so they follow and do the same thing, once the child has interpreted this it will benefit them in the future and they shouldn’t have any problems.

Time Management is similar to being organised, like finishing on time for end of the day, lunch, break, lesson etc. It is important to allow a certain amount of time for each thing to be done, this way the day is tidy, nothing overlaps or goes over time. If for example you went over time into the child’s break and they normally get 15 minutes and this time they got 5 minutes, this would be unfair on the child and could upset them. Or if the lesson runs late at the end of the day and parents are waiting outside for ages, they are not going to be very happy.

Time Management is good because it sets an example for children like they can decide how long they spend doing homework and other various things, they can develop these skills to make their own decisions more independently. To be a nursery teacher you need to have certain qualities because of the people you are working with, for example you need to be tolerant of children, and if you don’t have that then it wouldn’t work. Below are some qualities you need to be a successful nursery teacher. Supportive- Nursery teachers need to be supportive to meet the child’s needs and for the child and parent to gain trust in them.

If the nursery teacher wasn’t supportive then this would impact the relationship between them and the child, or them and the parent. Nursery teachers are working with young children so it is important that the child feels loved and cared for, and also help the child’s mind progress and their work to. Sometimes if the child has a bad experience when they are younger it can impact them in the future and make them upset, it needs to be a positive experience. Being supportive will help the child’s, intellectual, emotional and social needs.

Intellectual because if the child needs help with work then by helping them they should be able to understand their mistake and move on. Next, Emotionally because if the child is upset or has problem they find it hard to talk to people about then someone needs to be there to help then along the way so they can get past the problem, like if their parents fell out and the child was upset they could if they wanted to, talk to the teacher about it. And socially because they can influence positive behaviour, so they hang around with the right people.

This skill is to help put the child in the right direction and progress as they develop. This skill should be used similarly with other people, like the child’s parent, if they have any concerns then they can support them and assure them they will be okay. Sense of Humour- You need a sense of humour to work young children, it’s not good being miserable in front of children because it gives the wrong impression and effect the mood of the child, if the mood is badly affected the child is more likely to go off track and have tantrums.

Have a sense of humour helps develop a positive relationship between you and the child or you and the parent, even if it is just sharing a small joke it can make you feel better. Say a child was feeling a bit down, if you have a great sense of humour you could cheer them up. This skill can also be used to develop a sense of humour in children, as they grow up they see the adults laughing and mimic them. Then they see they can please people by laughing and they laugh, as this gets better and better they become more confident with it which then makes it a personal quality to them.

Sense of humour can also be helpful if you have an assistant in the class helping, say if it was Monday and it really awkward and the teacher and assistant wasn’t making much conversation then they could bring out a joke which could break the tension and help them get on with their day. It also helps lighten the mood in the room which creates a positive atmosphere. But having a sense of humour is not always appropriate, if you were working for a big company and having a very serious meeting you wouldn’t tend to be making jokes and making people laugh, you’d be focussing on getting your point across an that.

It depends on the situation, if the nursery teacher was having a meeting with the parent about their child’s progress, you would be serious but you would allow a bit of sense of humour, it can make it more interesting. Creative- Being creative is what makes it interesting, without being creative you’d bore people and would be uninterested and wouldn’t want to be involved. A few ways of being creative to get children interested are to make things colourful, cartoon, have fun lesson plans like so they go on trips, do physical activities to make it more fun for them and do things they’ve never done before.

As a nursery teacher, it needs to interesting and fun because young children disengage easily so by making it fun, they are more focussed which will help develop the creativity in them, if this becomes well develop as they grow up it will be a personal quality to them and can help academically like in art, having an open mind etc. It will also make them more engaged with their learning so this can help them do things better. Like for example shows on Nick Junior (TV channel) and other channels for little kids; all the haracters are cheesy but fun which makes them want to watch it. So if this skill is used properly it can have a positive outcome in the present and future. Like another example is if the nursery teacher was teaching the children about numbers, instead of reading it out of a book, they could do an interactive PowerPoint/or get the kids to do a physical activity, this way you’re making the children more involved with the lesson.

Creativity is used similarly for young people but in different amounts, like for teenagers you wouldn’t use lots and lots of colour or pictures because that a bit over the top and teenagers don’t want to be treated like little kids. But for little kids you would use more colour because it’s what grabs their attention. Energetic – Looking after little children is hectic, your rushing around trying to get work done, give each child the attention they want, sorting out arguments between them etc so you need to energetic to solve problems.

Being energetic can show positivity towards your job and to the children, because if you do stuff really slow and are lazy about it can give the impression you’re not putting 100% into it which could annoy the child’s parents as well as affect the child. It can affect the child because if you come in, in the morning really no bothered, slow then the child will follow this to as children like mimic others. So by being energetic you are being enthusiastic which can motivate the child more so more progress is made and they enjoy what they’re doing more.

A good teacher is energetic, it brings joy, energy and life to you and the people around you. Being energetic is used differently with different because of the situations that are happening, you may need to be energetic as a nursery teacher to the children to get them to motivate them but if you were at a funeral then you wouldn’t exactly be energetic them , you would be sad, so this shows you can’t be energetic all the time. And also if you got a really bad problem of your own, you can’t just be energetic and lively to cover it up you have to be honest about it and sort it out.

Committed- Being committed is what lets you in to what you’re doing, makes you involed, if you were not committed then you’d lose track of the situation and it shows your uninterested. Nursery teachers need to be committed to their job, weather its sorting out the children, being committed to the lesson (e. g. coming on time) ,making an effort to make the lesson interesting, marking work, doing other paper work, notifying parents of any problems. If you are the nursery teacher, you are he leader to the children, you know what’s right and wrong and your what the child is learning from, being uncommitted can affect the children as well because they won’t feel like they need to be committed because they mimic other people so this just sets the wrong example to them so in the future when they move up to primary school they could end up showing lack of commitment to their work. Being committed is a trust sign you believe in what you’re doing, if you’re not committed you’re not interested.

It can also affect your relationship with parents and nursery assistants, because if for example the parent phones you up with a query and you can’t be bothered to phone back then the parent would be frustrated and annoyed and might make a complaint to the head, so this could affect how good the relationship. And also another example if a child needed seeing to and you didn’t bother to sort it out, then the teaching assistant would get annoyed with you because its leaving the pressure on them to sort it out when you can sort it out but choosing not to, this could build up their stress levels and they could lose their patience with you.

Nursery teachers work with different people and professionals for the child’s needs, this helps them develop as people. People they work with are Early years and childcare – Early years/nursery teachers, Nursery nurses/workers, Nannies, Heads of children’s centres, Volunteers in childcare settings. Children and young people’s social care – children and family court advisory and support service officers, foster carers, residential childcare workers, children and family social workers.

Learning, development and support services – learning mentors, educational psychologists, education welfare officers, behaviour and education support teams, family support workers. To be a doctor, you need a different set of skills and qualities, some of them are the same as being a nursery teacher. Doctors have many day to day task to do, so it is important they don’t let their standards slip because it can have some serious implications. Skills that a doctor needs are

Strict Personal Hygiene- Doctors are dealing with patients throughout the day, everybody has germs they take with them into the doctors, some could be harmless and some dangerous, to stop germs from spreading the doctor needs to keep a good hygiene so they do not pass anything onto the next patient. This is vital, if the Doctor doesn’t keep a good hygiene, then germs will spread resulting in ill patients. For a busy doctor washing their hands probably happens dozens to hundreds of times a day.

As a result, hygiene can be forgotten. And also it doesn’t make it appealing to patients if you have poor hygiene, if this is the case they may decide to resolve the problem with another doctor or another hospital. For example if someone has a wound that needs stitching up, the doctor needs to have clean hands and the equipment needs to be sterilised because they’re dealing with blood and stitches, this needs to happen so it doesn’t get infected.

The level of hygiene can depend on the task that the doctor needs to do, for example if they are just seeing a patient to do a blood sample then they will need to sanitise their hands, but if it’s a serious operation like liver transplant then they would need to wear masks, regularly change gloves, and sanitise their hands. If they didn’t do this then this could spread infection in the patient and they could die. Ability to work well as a team- Doctors have to work together to work through the problems, by doing this they are sharing knowledge to help the person who is ill.

If the doctor was working by them self it would be a lot of work and pressure on them, so having the skill to work as a team they share the work load to make it easier which takes the pressure of them. They also better decisions for the patient, so this makes the patient feel better and themselves. Also because they need to work together to be able to work with their patients as well as patients families TOGETHER in order to reach a better health outcome for their patients.

Doctors have to work with other staff in the hospital like nurses and support staff to get tasks done. If they didn’t do this it could be very awkward and they need to learn to get own to help them self’s while help the patients. When doctors and nurses and other staff work together they know how to effectively communicate with each other and other members of the health team. he patient is the most important part of the team, and through a collaborative team based approach, patients can receive the highest quality of care.

And like any team, the doctors team needs to work together respectfully and thoughtfully. The doctors team needs to listen attentively to each other and communicate and problem solve together. Each member of the team supports and respects one another, this helps develop a better relationship leading to better decision making. Excellent Coordination- Doctors have to be very precise especially when it comes to making big decisions, they could have someone’s live in the their hands, if they made the wrong decision it could have serious consequences.

Coordination could mean the doctors need to coordinate staff to do something in particular like pass them equipment during an operation or tell them what to do next. Good Coordination will help make the task more successful which benefits the doctors and the patients and its shows that you know what you’re doing. By being a good a excellent coordinator it is less likely mistakes will be made so the operation will run smoothly, if the doctor botches it up it means the patient is likely to need another operation which means more money, and the NHS may not be able to afford this as they are always in dept.

So the patient might have the sue the doctor to get the money which will take years, and there is a lot of hassle and stress which comes with that. And it’s all because the doctor didn’t have good coordination, so this is why they need it. Organisational Skills- These are essential skills a doctor needs to be successful, if you don’t plan or organise you don’t know what to expect which could make you make a really bad decision. They also help keep you focussed on doing the right tasks, help you set your priorities and gives you the confidence in what your doing.

For example if someone is having an operation tomorrow and the doctor has not planned out how they are going to do it, what equipment they need then it will make it difficult for them, and they could be rushing around trying to find equipment and have the patient in theatre for longer because they had use more time for planning. Good planning and organisational skills can greatly help reduce the stress which will make the doctor feel more in control of the situation.

Also, people could be assisting you and if you are not organised when something needs doing then it could build up the frustration in the people that the doctor is working with. In order to stay organized throughout the day, the doctor could write down information for them to help them plan. Not only will the patient be treated more efficiently because the doctors written down planning information, but the doctor will be more effective when they know how the patient is doing with treatment.

These skills should be used all the time because no one know what could happen next, it could be unexpected. Self Confidence- Self-confidence is an important trait for a doctor to have and you have make some big decisions which could mean life or death for someone. Even when some of their expectations are not met, doctors still need to continue to be positive and to accept themselves even if they make an mistake. When a surgeon is self-confident, they are able to look critically at their decisions and adjust based on their outcomes.

Like for example if they are trying to keep someone alive and the doctor is struggling, they need to have belief and confidence in themselves that they can save that person. If they were negative about it and gave up with that person then have automatically failed. Doctors need to accept other’s insight into a disease or ideas, they need to believe in it and trust the others that they are making the right decision. So having self confidence helps you to believe in what you are doing, which can make the situation succeed.

You can’t be the quite person who doesn’t say anything because it could affect the people around you, like patients it could make them feel uneasy and more worried if you don’t talk and that. Also to other staff/nurses because you are the leader to them so you need to instruct them so they can be precise an make the right decision for the patient. Strong communication skills- this is an essential part of building and maintaining good patient and staff relationships. These skills help people to understand and learn from each other, develop alternate perspectives, and meet each other’s needs.

If a patient is feeling really bad, maybe is quite emotional and stressed and they don’t communicate this to the doctor then this is bad communication which makes it become a barrier what can make the problem worse. For patients some of the reasons strong communication skills are needed are to explaining diagnosis to patients, investigation and treatment Involving the patient in the decision-making, seeking informed consent/clarification for something to go ahead, dealing with anxious patients or relatives.

They also need strong communication with staff, it could be to instruct them, tell them any essential information about the patient or give medical notes or history. A doctor who can communicate effectively with his patients brings psychological benefits for the patient to. The patient will be able to understand the doctors medical problems better and will be more satisfied with his doctor’s services so this is an important factor. If a patient is uncomfortable around his doctor, the patient will be less likely to focus on the doctor’s advice.

The doctor must communicate an environment of trust, the doctor should ensure the patient that he is there for the patient’s care are not for anything else. Strong communication also helps the doctor them self because its practising to make their own communication skills better. Other effects of good communication are it promotes civility, increases productivity and improves the patients satisfaction. The patient will feel more comfortable talking on difficult subjects.

Patient- Patients can get stressed, anxious, angry and more, so it is important to patient with them. For example doctors must learn to deal with angry patients who have received bad news or are upset at the lack of communication about their situation. They must learn to not get upset themselves and retaliate with negative attitudes and language, if doesn’t happen it can affect their self confidence to, because retaliating shows they’ve felt the hit and need to get that person back.

They must apply these skills to their job because it makes them look more professional, caring (so patients may choose to want to come to that particular doctor instead) and it could also make them feel better themselves because they know they have succeeded helping the person without losing their temper. Also by not retaliating the patient the doctor will not influence any more anger in the patient, because if the doctor says something horrible back to the patient it only makes the situation worse and makes the patient build up their anger more.

So by using this skill it helps keep the situation more calmer between the patient and the doctor. It doesn’t’ just affect the patient, it can help staff and the patients families to. Because by making the situation calmer with the patient it means the families are more calmer to because they are assured the patient is okay and satisfied. It is important the doctor is patient with other members of staff because it can effect communication, and how well they work together as a team. The doctor looses there temper with a nurse then they could fall out or the nurse may find it hard to work with the doctor because of their lack of patience.

If the nurse feels unhappy with the doctor it can create a communication barrier because the nurse wouldn’t particularly want to talk to the doctor, if this happens then they may not get there point/idea across, so in a big situation like if someone’s having a operation the nurse doesn’t want to talk to the doctor about something obvious that they are doing wrong, then it could affect the patient. So by using this skill well, it will make situations easier, better team work which then leads to better decision making, and also it can make them all feel better about them self’s and feel like they have achieved something.

Some Qualities a doctor needs are.. Sympathetic- Being sympathetic is the responsiveness to the emotional state of another patient. When dealing with patients and families coping with life threatening illness, one of the doctors ways to make the patient feel better is to by sympathetic with them, it is beneficial to patient as it makes them feel like they have been understood better and comforted which makes them feel better them self and like someone’s listening and someone cares.

Taking the time to listen and to explain things in a simple, straight-forward manner goes a long way as well. No one wants to be “talked down to” by their doctor nor do they want to be made to feel bad if they do not understand the terminology being used. By doctors being sympathetic they show an understanding of a patient’s concerns, pain, suffering and an intention to help, with leads to doctors to better outcome and fewer complications and makes a huge impact on the patient’s outlook and wellbeing.

It can also help communication between you and the patient because if your showing an understanding to the patient they more likely to open up and show their emotions so you can help make feel better. If a doctor wasn’t sympathetic them it could make it harder for the patient to talk to them, they may feel misunderstood which could result in them not coming back to see the doctor. Because being sympathetic helps communication between the doctor and patient it means better outcomes, better decisions made and a better understanding of the situation, they doctor and patient can work together better to achieve the best.

By using these skills, it makes the patient happier which makes you happier and feel more satisfied that you helped them, because when that patient says ‘thank you’ to the doctor, it makes the doctor feel like they have gained something. It may not always be appropriate to use the same level of sympathy with others, for example the doctor is more likely to give more sympathy for a child than an adult because a child young, and they want the sympathy more, so they have to sympathise with them more. It doesn’t mean the doctor has more sympathy for the child it just means they give more ecause of the child’s needs. An adult wouldn’t want or get the same amount of sympathy a child gets because it makes them feel like they are being treated wrong, and like a child, so the doctor needs to only give a certain amount to the adult to help them. Creative- By this I mean being creative with an open mind to patients, doctors need to be open minded to consider ideas and opinions. If an idea is shown to the doctor and they thinks it’s good, they will accept it and use it solve the problem.

Once the patient has said about their problems to the doctor, the doctor can then find a solution, the more the patient says about how they are feeling and the problems the easier it is for the doctor to be creative about their options. By sharing their open thoughts and idea doctors can work together better to create better decisions. By being creative they can learn new things and explore the options available, they may not use them now but use them in future experiences. If doctors were not creative about their options then they would miss out on vital information to solve things.

Doctors who are open-minded are willing to change their views when presented with new facts and evidence. Those who are not, and are resistant change and will find it less rewarding and satisfying, so If we doctors limited themselves to what they knew and were more comfortable with in the past, they will become more and more frustrated and have lack of knowledge. If someone is having an operation and it doesn’t go to plan as the doctor wanted then they need be creative about what to do, think and be open minded about their options, and then maybe talk to the other doctors to get their opinion on it.

Determined- Being determined helps you and the people around you, if doctors want to succeed they need to be determined to do so, they need to put 100% effort in, believe, be positive and focus which is the key to being determined. No matter what the situation is the doctor has to be determined, even if someone’s in a critical condition they need to believe and have determination to make that person better. Being determined stimulates the mind, and helps make you feel better, especially once you have achieved it.

Once the patient knows you have determination to make them better, it makes them feel lifted, and like you care and want to make the situation better for them. So by making them feel better it puts more positive thoughts in to their heads and gives them some determination they will get past it. But just because the doctor is determined doesn’t mean they won’t have to make another more decisions, not true, they will have to make many decisions along the way. Knowing how to make decisions is important in order to adapt to change along the way.

Sometimes things don’t always go as planned; therefore, changes are needed at times. Being determined benefits the doctor because if they succeed in what they trying to achieve they will feel good about them self’s and feel uplifted, and the doctor feels like that so will all the other doctors who were in the process of fixing the problem. But just because the doctor is determined doesn’t mean that they will succeed, being determined helps them to succeed but won’t always do so.

If this happens they just need to move on and put it aside and focus on the next problem they are going to face, they should never give up because then they have failed. Trustworthy- Trust is essential to both doctor and the patient. Without trust, how could a doctor expect patients to reveal the full extent of their problem, expose themselves to the doctor or act on recommendations for tests or treatments. Patients need to know that the doctor is not going to laugh/take the mick or tell others about their problem. Trust promotes efficient use of both the patient’s and the doctor’s time.

Once trust is gained from both sides, it gives them the confidence to be more open about the problem. If a patient went into the doctors to tell them they think they might have OCD and the doctor says that’s a stupid thing to think and laughs, then that automatically makes the patient feel insecure about tell the doctor anything else. From that point the patient looses trust and confidence in the doctor. So this is why it is vital doctors are trust worthy, they should not speak about any problems outside their work to make it fair on the patients privacy.

The doctor also needs to trust the patient that they won’t go off and talk dirt about them like saying they are a bad doctor, they don’t know what they are doing, because that could knock their confidence just as much vies versa. The Patient also needs to trust the doctor to make the right decisions for them, so the doctor needs to have a good idea of what they think is appropriate to help the patient. To do this the doctor needs to be confident in what they are saying and use simple words that the patient can understand, this will help the patient build up trust that the doctor knows what they is doing.

This is similarly used with other doctors, because one of the doctors could be in charge and the other doctors need to trust in the doctor in charge that they know what they are doing. A doctor and patient that trust each other, can work through the problem quicker and more efficiently. Sense of humour- Not all doctors are have this quality but if they do it makes a big difference, not only to the doctor, but to the patient and other doctors/staff/nurses who are working there to.

Sense of humour means be able to have a laugh, joke or a small chat with someone, like if they patient came to the doctor with a problem, after they’ve talked about the problem, they doctor could ask what they are doing this evening or just share a small conversation with them, this brightens up the patients mood and makes them feel better that the doctor has made an effort to talk to them, because the patients feels generally better they then pass the positivity onto the next person like if they went home and spoke to people.

Sense of humour is especially good if the patient have just received bad news from the doctor. A good doctor is one with a good sense of humour, it can make things more tolerable and help relieve tension. Doctors with a good sense of humour can put others at ease. Because the doctor has made the patient better and made them smile, that gives them an indication that they have made them feel better which makes the doctor them self feel better.

Sense of humour equals happier patients which means happier doctor, if all doctors were like this then the general mood of things would be much brighter. However some doctors do not have a sense of humour, so if the patient comes in and the doctor just does his job, no talk or anything, it won’t make the patient feel any less worried or stressed, and they may get the wrong impression of the doctor. By the doctor sharing a small joke between the other doctors/staff/nurses it makes them feel better, and can make them feel more motivated because they have been cheered up by the doctor.

Having a sense of humour is not always appropriate like if the patient comes in, tells the doctor the problem, and bursts into tears then the doctor should have empathy and sympathy to comfort their needs first, then once they have made them feel better perhaps share a small jokes/small conversation. You can’t just jump into it, it could be a couple steps before you allows yourself to have some sense of humour with the patient. How are these skills and qualities different from each other? Some of the kills and qualities each of these job roles are the same, but used in a different way or similarly but in a different context. The skills I have chosen to compare are… Communication- Both jobs require communication, if neither had communication then problems would never resolved so this is essential. Doctors need communication to communicate with staff/nurses/other doctors and patients, they may contact staff/nurses/other doctors if they need to give them some information about the patient, hand over some paper work etc, they need to communicate the patients so they can help them resolve their problem.

Nursery teachers need to communicate with the children and other staff there like teaching assistants, they may need to communicate some information about a child. They need to communicate to the children just like the doctor has to communicate to their patients, whether is just talking to them or hand them forms to fill in/give to their parents its used similarly. Good communication reflects on themselves so they need to keep it at a strong level, not only to reflect on them self’s but for the patients, children, staff, teaching assistants to benefit them to.

Sympathetic- Doctors and nursery teachers both use sympathy to comfort the persons needs, and they both use it the most on children because they are the ones who want to most sympathy, and make you feel sorry for them. Both jobs need this quality because its beneficial in many ways, it will make the person feel better when you are being sympathetic with them, and it makes them feel like they have been understood better and comforted which makes them feel better them self and like someone’s listening and someone cares.

If neither jobs used this it would contribute to making problems harder to solve. However when it comes to adults its used, but on a lower level, nursery teachers may use a small amount of sympathy, but when doctors are speak to adult patients they use more sympathy than a nursery teacher would do to another member of staff. This is because adult patient’s problems are likely to be more serious than a teaching assistant. So sympathy is used differently and on a different level depends on the type of the person it is.

Creative- Both of these jobs the need to be creative, they are used the same but for different contexts. In a doctors case they use it to help solve problems, be open minded about the problem and what ideas could they use to help them figure it out. Nursery teachers use creativity to encourage kids to get creative, messy and use different ideas with their work, explore the different things. So they are using it similarly because they are being open minded and using different ideas but for different things. They both need to be creative so they learn new things and explore new ideas.

Without creativity we wouldn’t progress, or know much more ideas, just like an artist, if they don’t explore the different things in art e. g. techniques, brush strokes and that then they won’t progress and they would know about the same amount of information as everyone else. Doctors need to be creative to but in a different way, they need to be creative by having an open mind when it comes to their patients. Doctors use creativity differently, they don’t use it to encourage kids to get messy with work like nursery teachers do, because that’s not what the way being creative is intended in their job.

However a nursery teacher would use creativity like a doctor does but at a different level because the situation is not serious like the doctors is. They may use it with kids not only to be creative with their work and towards other learning, but by encouraging them to be open minded about solving their problems, like for example if the child’s pen had run out of ink, the teacher may encourage them to think what they could do to solve that problem instead of asking what to do.

By doing this it would make the child think and be proactive about it next time rather than them asking. So they do both use it but on a different level because the situation is not as serious, nursery teachers use it for more things on a lower level but doctors use less of it on a higher level, they just use it to help them solve problems, but they have to use it on a much higher level. Also they both use it for the people they are looking after needs, the doctor uses it for their patients, and the nursery teacher uses it for the children.

Strict Personal Hygiene- This is used differently on different levels, for doctors it is essential they have strict person hygiene not just for themselves but for the patients sake, you don’t want a disease to keep spreading just because someone can’t keep them self clean. For an operation doctors need to wear special hygiene gear like masks, hats, gloves etc and they have to sanitise their hands regularly, nursery teachers do not need to do this to the same level as they do because the job does not involve what a doctor is doing and it’s not as serious as it.

Nursery teachers are dealing with children, so they only need basic hygiene and to teach young children it. Both jobs will require paperwork and using a computer, so they would both have the same level of hygiene for this. So both jobs us this but at a much, much different level because of what they are dealing with. By a doctor having strict hygiene it benefits the patient because they may trust you more because you’re clean. For a nursery teacher, if they had good hygiene it wouldn’t be picked up by the children very well because they are still young and wouldn’t notice it, so this is different to a doctor.

Ability to work as a team- Doctors need to work as a team patients so they can solve problems better, they need to work as a team with other doctors to for a number of reason which are written in the skill requirements. Nursery teachers need to work with the children to help them make progress and work independently and they also work with other members of staff (assistants) so they can work together to help the child, so this is similar because they are both used to help people and solve problems.

Without this skill it would make it difficult to solve problems which could prevent them from being resolved, if they worked by themselves they wouldn’t solving problems. The benefits of working together are different though, for a doctor by working together they take a lot pressure of each other, when nursery teacher works together with an assistant, it tends not to be a serious matter an so there isn’t much pressure to be taken off.

Working as a team shares knowledge, so in a doctors case, this is really good as they bounce ideas off each other to help the patient, and for a nursery teacher it’s good to because the share knowledge between each other to help the child. Determined- Both jobs need determination but one more than the other. Doctors need more determination with patients because the situation is a lot more serious and bigger so they have to have positivity and determination which will help them to succeed in helping that person.

A teacher needs determination but on a different level because the situation is not as serious, it could be life or death for a patient so the doctor needs a lot more determination than a nursery school teacher would need with children. A nursery school teacher needs determination so that the child will know what they need to know by the time they leave, the teacher needs to believe and be determined that they can teach it and get it into their brains, determination helps to achieve this, it’s not good just being all casual about it, if they want to succeed they need to focus on helping and teach the child to be determined.

The benefits are similar but the outcomes of them are different and on a larger level than one another. Say a patient has had a really serious illness, and has been in hospital for like 4 months and they just recovered and got out, for them they will feel fantastic, because they are out of the hospital and are free to live there life as normal and to the fullest. And say if a child got a spelling test back and got 97% of the questions right, they would be happy, be praised by other people but because the situation isn’t as serious, they can only be happy about it to a certain level.

If that child was in the hospital and just came out they’d be happier than when they were when they did well in their spelling test. Attentive- Both jobs need to this, but at a different level because situation and people. A nursery teacher needs to keep a constant eye on children because children lose concentration easily, go off track, so they need constant care, but in a doctors case, for example if someone is in hospital ill over night, they should get regular checkups through the night to make sure things are okay, but they won’t have someone there 24/7 to make sure they are okay.

The benefits of being attentive are same but impact children more because the more the nursery teacher is attentive to the child the more it can affect their behaviour and the more they learn from it. Whereas if the doctor checks up the person in the hospital a couple times during the night it won’t affect their behaviour as much because they are not attention seekers like children are, it will make them feel like they are being cared and thought about but shouldn’t affect behaviour.

They both should have this at different levels to make the person feel like they have been cared for, listen to, being felt understood and to satisfy their needs. Potential workforce development activities for each job role For teachers, they need to keep up to date and keep their skills to progress so they continue to educate the children to a high level, if they didn’t do any training to get better and to keep their skills, then overtime they could forget these vital skills and the basic ones resulting in a lack of skills which effects the child, so they don’t learn & progress as well.

Also by doing training, teachers can address any issues or concerns they have, perhaps they may feel they are lacking in a certain skill and need help with. Through the year of teaching children, nursery teachers must go through additional training to keep progressing & keep their skills/methods. To do this they do ‘in service’ training days or at the local authorities training centres.

They also need to have a CRB check, usually every 3-6 years depending on the nursery, this is required because if the nursery teacher has got a criminal record in between the time they have been working with the children, they should not be working with children. For example if they assaulted someone, like punched them, hit them and sweared at them, then they are no longer that nice, tolerant and kind person that they need to be to work with children. Because as soon as they have a criminal record or have participated in criminal activity, they lose their traits and qualities, which makes them no longer able to work with children.

For doctors it is even more important for them to keep their skills up to date because for example if they were in a serious situation and it would be life or death for someone and the doctor has forgotten the skills/basics then it would seriously affect them, like if they forgot a couple of the basic hygiene skills and a disease started to spread in the patient’s body because they doctor has forgotten these skills, this would affect the doctors performance on saving that person’s life.

Doctors have to attend CPD, this is outside training that helps doctors maintain and improve their performance, it covers knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour across all areas of their role. This helps them to update their skills of what they learnt in medical school and during post graduate training to reflect on changes their role. Doctors must do this every 5-7 years depending on the hospital, the more funding they have the more often to doctor will be assessed.

This is a good opportunity for the doctor because they can address any problems or issues they have, they may have lack of understanding of something or just need a refresher and need to find out how to solve the problem so during the CPD is the time for the doctors find and solve what they need to know. Like nursery teachers, doctors need a CRB check, but they need it every 3 years minimum, this is important because if they have a criminal record it could put the patient at risk depending on what they have done, and it could also affect different aspects, including communicating with others and that.

Like for example if the doctor had a break down, then lost control on his/her mind and broken in to a bank and robbed it, and got court, then got a criminal record for it. Then how can the hospital trust the doctor not to do anything bad like steal anything from the hospital like drugs and that, once the doctor has abused there position, the level of trust goes down so they will loose their job and find it hard to find another one.
