Tattoos have been around for a long time, and in today’s society they are considered unacceptable. We judge people with tattoos as thugs, people involved in gangs, or unprofessional. “The gang culture of the 1980s–its symbols, slang, tattoos, clothing style, hand signals and music–has trickled down to the next generation and into many suburbs” (Teen Gangs and Crime). Tattoos should not be something that people judge. Businesses discriminate people with tattoos most often.

The workplace should allow tattoos unless they are disrespectful, as in knifes, skulls, and weapons. Tattoos are a way to express art, express someone’s heritage, and can be a way to remember special occasions. Tattoos are very popular in today’s society. At least about every five minutes walking around town or the beach an individual can be seen with a tattoo. Tattoos are a permanent way of showing one’s art. This art is a problem for businesses because they consider this unprofessional.

If the art is decent and not unacceptable, the person shouldn’t be discriminated against because the individual could be a very smart and reliable person. A worker who wanted to display a Ku Klux Klan tattoo–which would have violated his employer’s racial harassment policy–and, in an effort to do so, made an unsuccessful claim of religious discrimination (Religion in the Workplace). People shouldn’t get tattoos of racial discrimination, gangs, or art that’s immature. These tattoos should never be allowed for any job hiring, because it’s disrespectful.

People who have art that’s stunning or unique shouldn’t be denied from getting the job. People may use this art on their body to become a model for tattooing. Some like to express their art to others and stand out from people. Tattoos can also serve as a new fashion trend. According to the schools across the U. S. , tattoos are listed as a banned fashion accessory under their dress code (Students, Education Spar over Tattoo Bans in School). Although some tattoos can be disturbing or immature, most decent tattoos are very interesting and have deep meanings to them.

Most people like to get tattoos with meaning behind them, so they do their heritage like Native American, Italian, Hawaiian, or even Arabic. People first start of with tattoos like this because it has something to do with them, and they show off their culture or background in life. People can see this type of tattoo and can have a basic understanding of what their culture is. These tattoos mean a lot to people and they consider it very important. These tattoos can also help with some information that most people don’t know about cultures.

People will learn about new cultures and meanings behind a certain symbol because of someone’s art on their body. Finally tattoos are a good way to remember special occasions. They could be marriage, family member, or someone who passed away that was very important in their life. Couples that are in love would get matching tattoos that are meant for one another. Or when two get married they get a tattoo for that special moment that lasts a life time to remember that day. Then people may get a tattoo of their families. Mom’s and dad’s tattoos are common, and show their love for their parents.

People would also get art done on them from people who passed away. These people could have been their loved ones or someone who meant a lot to them. So they wish to express their life into art on their body. There are so many different types of tattoos, but majority of them are not bad at all. People shouldn’t judge another because of their arts on their bodies; people should look at the background information to see if he or she is a reliable individual. A tattoo or tattoos shouldn’t stop a person from getting a job, or stop them from being a normal human being.

Tattoos should be allowed in businesses, but there is an acceptance of when it shouldn’t be. People who have tattoos like skulls, weapons, or an immature art work should have the opposite outlook. People who have ordinary tattoos that don’t affect anyone around them, even children, shouldn’t be discriminated.
