Written explanation Written explanation For my essay, I have chosen to write in the form of a persuasive essay. By doing this I aim to argue that point that conflict has winners and that conflict does have a positive side. I will do this by presenting arguments for my contention as well as against it. In the essay, I will be using concepts used in the text “The Rugmaker of Mazar-E-Sharif” written by author Robert Hillman in co-operation with Najaf Mazari.

To back up my arguments and to add variety I will also use stories from other aspects in life, in particular sport. Examples for positive outcomes include the Essendon debacle and how they have managed to deal with massive media scrutiny as well as the Melbourne Storm who have fought through immense adversity to win a premiership. In rebuttal to those arguments, I will also include the case of Oscar Pistorius, the so called ‘blade-runner’ who has so infamously fallen from grace.
I will use persuasive techniques such as rhetorical questions and inclusive language, as well as writing in the first person to engage my audience and intrigue them. By doing this I hope to help them see my side of the argument. The audience will be year 12 VCE students of Ballarat High School. I have chosen this as my audience because they already have an understanding of the text and the term conflict and I aim to add a new perspective to this.
