As an x-ray technician, you will support the radiology team within a hospital, physician’s office, or medical imaging facility. An X-Ray Technician is a trained health-care worker that uses x-ray equipment to take pictures of the inside of the body so that conditions, diseases, or injuries can be visualized and/or diagnosed. The x-ray technician can expect a variety of different working circumstances and must be able to work well with people and under stress and pressure. As an x-ray technician, you can expect to earn a starting salary of $15-$20 per hour. Your earnings will grow along with your experience. Hospitals will remain the principal employer of x-ray technicians. However, a large number of new jobs will arise in offices of physicians. Health facilities are expected to grow rapidly through 2014, due to the strong shift toward outpatient care. The average salary for an x-ray technician in Michigan is $49,000 annually. In order to receive a degree in Radiologic Technology, an Associate’s Degree is required.

Although having a Bachelor’s Degree will set you apart from the rest. Medical school is an option, but it is not required. Before applying to medical school, you must write to the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Most schools take your score on this test into account, along with your college grades, when you apply. Many schools also consider extracurricular activities, leadership qualities, and personal character. Medical school takes four year plus addition on-the-job training.
