Some larger pieces had designs in the shape of a dragon, a symbol of wisdom and long life. Anthropologists have found examples of rings, pins, amulets (good luck charms) and earings from Ancient China. These items could be worn by both men and women. Having beautiful jewelry showed that the person who wore it was from a high status in society.
