Ancient China had a booming jade, silk, pottery, and tea trade. China also engaged in rice trading since China had (and continues to have) the most fertile rice paddies in the world. Unlike Europeans who had strong, similarly situated neighbors, the Chinese traded with nomadic tribes and weaker semi-autonomous states in the local vicinity. China paid huge amounts of tribute to the Mongol Tribes at some points and at others engaged in trade for Mongol goods such as wool and kumis (fermented milk). China also traded with Gouryeo and Choseon (the Korean Empires), the Khmer States, Proto-Vietnam, and the early Burmese States.
