First and foremost, let us look back and examine what life was during the Dark Ages. According to Joaquin de la Sierra (2005), the medieval life was filled with bad or even worst case scenarios. At that time, health was not a priority in a sense that even their own hygiene like taking a bath is not a priority, thus many diseases hit the people, from the lower class like the farmers or peasants up to the upper class like those who belong in the monarchy. The hardest part of this health crisis that they were facing was that there were no real doctors at that time that could really heal the sick. The priests, who were acting as the doctors, were the only ones who “heal” the sick with the use of prayers.

In the middle ages, when there were wars or invasion of a certain territory, the life of the people would definitely be put to a harder test. There were times that the enemies would cut of the supply of food and water to a specific kingdom living in a castle and nobody would be able to get out from the castle.

In terms of food, the peasants and low class rarely eat the food that only upper class could eat like meat, cheese, vegetables and other dairy products. The lower class consumed only bread and water to survive the day while the lords and kings had all the food they wanted to eat.

With these scenario in the medieval Dark Ages, one might reflect and ponder at this point in time, wherein global financial crisis is experienced all over the world, whether we are leading to a new type of medieval Dark Ages. War, poverty, famine, diseases were present during the Dark Ages, and at present and up to the future, war, poverty, famine and diseases will be there, experienced by the people due to the global financial crisis. Hence, if these problems or scenarios are not rightfully addressed, then I believe that we are going to the new medieval Dark Ages.
