“Clovis points” are prime examples of stone-tipped spears.Specimens made from chert, flint, jasper, and chalcedony have beenfound. They date back to the Paleo-Indian period about 13,500 yearsago. The replaceable spear tip had a flute, or groove, whichallowed it to be fastened (hafted) to the spear’s shaft. That way, only the tips needed to be carried when travel to new huntinggrounds became necessary. “Folsom points” are “newer”.
