To the surprise of many Romans, the gladiator slave, Spartacus was able to raise and unite a powers former slave revolt against Rome. The first few legions sent to end the revolt were defeated. Finally the Romans sent the General Crassus to defeat the Spartacus army. By bad luck Spartacus was caught between to Roman armies and was defeated in 71 BC BCE.
