Aqueducts supply watersto cities and towns. If you are referring to Roman aqueducts, theyare obsolete for two reasons. One is that they have fallen indisrepair due to centuries of neglect. The other is that theyrelied solely on gravity to move the ware. They were built at agradient for this. Modern water needs require aqueducts which pumpthe water with machines.One aqueduct in Romewas restored and supplied water to a large area of the city centre.However, in recent decades, due to soil pollution, it has been usedonly to supply then famous monumental fountains of this area,including the famous Trevi fountain.
