The wars started with a revolt by the Ionian city-states, expandedto include mainland Greece, which saw those Greek city-statessuspend their usual warfare between them, and see off the Persianattempt ot gain control of them. When Persia gave up, they returnedto fighting each other. Persia went back trying to control itsempire.
