Sustainability
I hadn’t considered the inter-plays that exist between the societal, environmental and economic facets of sustainability, I subscribe to the three pillars of sustainability ( figure 1 ) , that is each has an impact but they are independent of each other.

Class treatments and research enabled me to see the interactions between these pillars and I started to contemplate sustainability more as an synergistic procedure aligned with the three domains of sustainability ( figure 2 ) which I interpret as being of equal importance and that is you connect them all you will accomplish sustainability.

My ecological footmark gave me personal penetrations into my impact on the environment. I reflected on what I could make to cut down my footmark ; an all-electric house, occupation with extended auto travel and I am a meat feeder. What hereafter was I go forthing my kids and what could I alter? I could cut down my ingestion of ruddy meat, salvaging a planet, nevertheless the economic and societal impact on our husbandmans for me outweighs the impact on the planet after all that is their support. I can cut down my energy use by turning contraptions off at place and work and I can utilize engineering for meetings to cut down my travel imprint.

I watched a figure of docudramas on natural catastrophes and asked myself why we have done nil to forestall these and what have we learnt. I reflected on the impact of the recent drouth throughout Victoria. Ballarat about ran out of drinkable H2O, our lake ran dry and touristry was in diminution. This environmental event was impacting on our economic system and the societal impact was and is still being felt today. Human behaviour changed, current H2O demand remains at degrees of the 1930’s hence I’ve concluded that worlds need a crisis in order to alter behavior for the good of the environment. But have we truly learnt from this, the drouth of the 1930’s suggest non, grounds was at that place that we over used the land holding a important impact socially, economically and environmentally but yet natural catastrophes drouths still occur due to unequal consideration of all facets of sustainability.

Worldviews and values
A light bulb minute – I hadn’t considered sustainability worldviews. Was I more inclined to tilt towards the atomistic ( individual-centred ) position or the holistic ( earth-centred ) position? On contemplation I think for me it is both, unless you hold strong beliefs one manner or the other I believe we hover in between ; we all interpret informations otherwise based on our get downing premises and values and are less likely to alter our worldview.

In peculiar I reflected on Autochthonal Australians who hold to a traditional value, the land is sacred to them ; by keeping this position they have a positive impact on the environment ; they merely take what they need, they give back and believe in the spirit of the land. They didn’t need politicians to develop policies and statute law to do them cut down their C emanations or to look after the land. I am faced with the quandary of how we as a state can do a difference ; it appears that I have more inquiries than I have replies.

Sustainability stages
Most administrations are slow arrangers to alter and normally do so as a consequence of conformity activities being enforced upon them due to new or Reformed statute law, a good illustration of this is OH & A ; S statute law in Australia. Are we making plenty through instruction to guarantee the following coevals of leaders will see sustainability more than a bombilation word? We have created a street arab society, landfill is going scarce and yet our leaning to hold the latest appliance is non diminishing, locally, nationally and internationally we need to look at ways in which we can recycle or recycle the stuffs on a big graduated table that has a positive impact on the planet.

Another light bulb minute came when we researched companies that we believe are sustainable and see what stage of sustainability they are in. We looked at Acciona Energy and concluded that they are in prolonging corporation stage as they are paving the manner in sustainability. Not all would hold as there are people in Ballarat who are opposed to weave farms and their worldviews are strong in the belief the turbines are more harmful to your wellness and nil will carry them otherwise. This re-emphasises that our premises and values in many ways holds much stronger than any grounds that may be presented to us that may rebut our positions.

My journey
I have discussed and debated the values I hold and how by altering one little thing we can do a difference to our ecological footmark. If everyone made one little alteration in their life style it may turn into something that will impact positively on the planet ; e.g. Earth hr which started as a national event and is now a planetary phenomenon. I’ve planted a vegetable garden, my meat ingestion has decreased and I actively store for locally produced veggies and fruit. I have moved my thought to that of the ‘bullseye’ theoretical account ( figure 3 ) which “shows that the human system, which is broken up into societal and economic systems, must remain within the capacity of the societal system to be sustainable.” ( Wallis, A. M. , Graymore, M. L. M. , & A ; Richards, A. J. 2011. p.597 )

I have contemplated how we move sustainability from a bombilation word without presenting statute law which may non alter people’s worldview. I work in the not-for-profit sector we are at the conformity stage of sustainability, we can travel to the efficiency stage by constructing the capacity of our community leaders ; raising their consciousness of sustainability, leting them to see the impact of their determinations and doing a alteration that positively impacts the environment. I have seen sustainable behavioral alteration occur ; such as H2O demand, if the ground for alteration is obliging but we have to recognize that alteration is a journey and for each of us we have to subscribe to the position that we want to alter.
