I want to begin with one question. Are we truly Americans? Slide 2 You call yourself patriotic for celebrating Independence Day, for obeying the laws, for driving within the speed limit. We call ourselves a “Developed Society”. Yet when our setting foundation is in crumbles. We just sit back and shrug “not my problem”. Slides 3-6 523,000 orphans are in America alone 153,000,000 worldwide are classified as orphans. Every day 5,760 more children worldwide become orphans. Slide 7 These are just not numbers; these are just not facts to be boggle your mind.

I am not saying this to earn your sympathy or forged empathy. These are Children, like you and me; unlike you and me, they are orphaned. When we are young, we are a mothers and fathers precious thing. We belong to our parents and our parents alone. Yet unfortunate circumstances occur and the parent is not there to provide the necessities of life to that child. These children are then left to fend for themselves in the real world. The definition of an orphan is a child whose parents are dead. Deceased, departed from this natural world.

As humans we understand or we presume we know what these orphans go through. Their experiences and their own childhood has gone right in front of their eyes. Slide 8 This problem is so prevalent, so pervasive. It’s an epidemic. Nonetheless this is not a global priority. Not even a American “concern”. This happens at every corner of globe. And what is so appalling about this; are that children are the keystone of a society. They are the foundation of an evolution. They are who they are….. Children. Slide 9 Yet again these are children who are orphaned who are at times homeless.

These are children who have to worry about what they eat being forced to skip meals. Slide 10 These are children who experience homelessness which attributes to severe or even chronic health problems, and we complain about a simple paper cut? These are children who are put at the increasingly alarming risk factors to repeat a grade or even being expelled out of school, according to ccain. org. Slide 11 Despite of this, 54% of the money that the government disperses goes toward the military; that fight for senseless wiles, according to wordresisters. org. ,499 billion are spent towards loosing lives, endangering the innocents, and killing the brave, while only 30% are inclusive to all human resources. This includes welfare, and unemployment. States allocate a measly 1. 2% of available federal funds to orphanages that is only an estimate. Slide 12 Just let that savor into your mind. Slide 13 According to the skywardjournal. org every year over 38,943 age out of the foster care. These students come from nothing are thrown back onto the streets. 60% of these young men and women have been convicted of a crime.

If we combat this problem then crime rates would decrease, stores would not have to raise prices up 25% as a precaution for robbery, shoplifting, etc according to examiner. com. These children do not have the emotional or financial means to survive and turn to crime to endure. Slide 14 Not only so, 70% if orphanages have ambitions to attend college. Let’s pause for a second, these kids have less than “adequate” means for survival, no family to guide them, and yet the desire to attend college is so dominant.

A merely 6% had finished a two – four year degree after aging out of the foster care. To the extent that Children raised in orphanages have a IQ 20 points lower Than their peers in foster care, according to a meta-analysis of 75 studies (more than 3,800 children in 19 countries). This shows the need for children to be raised in families, not in institutions. And still, that amount of will power to attend college despite the condition the child is placed in is stupendous. Something only an exiguous number of children attains. Slide 15

If we combat this plague crime rates would go down certainly, the government would not have to spend money towards jailhouses to imprison these orphaned men and women. Store prices would be lowered since crimes would decrease. These children can teach others aging out of the system how to survive in the real world. Slide 16-17 If we halted spending money on unnecessary wars then we can rebuild our foundation of children, ensure nutritious meals to orphanages, and not just to any orphanages, the ones that actually knee down and care for these kids.

Slide 18-20 We can pave the way for these orphaned kids to get an education. To become someone. If so, these kids can go unto college being bigger and brighter things, they can obtain a profession. Entrepreneurs can start small business and we can facilitate lowering our 16 trillion debts once the economy revives again. America can hold true meaning to its name. It will be redefined. Slide 21 Congressman and women this issue is not something we can stop in a day. This is not something we can contest in hours meeting.

Yet this is something we can become the catalyst of a new evolution. Slide 22 We can start small and end big. We can seek for these children, we can pray for them. We can virtually adopt them, we can spread the word around, we can donate to these orphanages, we can send food, clothing, we can urge families to adopt, we can at least try. Slide 23 As Americans we value these words “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” well our founding fathers created the phrase to the return of all men, women and children. Are these orphans not entitled to the same?
