The ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia was on the northern GreekPeninsula which borders the Aegean Sea in the same place that isnow the province of Macedonia. Thessaloniki its capital is on theThermaic Gulf (Greek: ????????? ??????) a gulf of the Aegean Sealocated immediately south of the Thessaloniki regional unit, eastof Pieria and Imathia, and west of Chalkidiki. It was named afterthe ancient town of Therma, which was situated on the northeastcoast of the gulf (Therma was later renamed Thessaloniki).
