The rights of Egyptian women were almost identical to those of themen. Distinctions in legal rights were class-based rather thangender-based. Egyptian women had the right to acquire, own anddispose of property in their own names. Women were able to enterinto legal contracts, witness legal documents, sue and be sued.Women had the legal right to sue their husband should he sell jointproperty or her property without her consent. Women could freeslaves, make adoptions, and inherit and bequeath personal property.Women could also serve as witnesses in court and serve on a jury.
