Why were Rome and Carthage were fighting

An expansionist Rome first tried tocripple Carthage economically, and when the Carthaginians provedtoo resilient to accept subservient status, Rome set out to destroyit utterly, razing the city and selling its people into slavery asthe ‘final solution’.
