Why were the carthaginians a threat to rome

Rome was expanding its influence in the western Mediterranean, andentered Sicily where it clashed with Carthaginian tradinginterests. They had previously been complementary allies, Carthagea sea power, Rome a land power. Rome tried to establish dominance,resulting in three wars. Rome tried to reduce Carthage tosubservience however the Carthaginians were too resilient, so Romedetermined to eliminate competition, destroying the city andselling the people into slavery.
