Archeologists and anthropologists who study people and their cultures from long ago have devised a set of terms to divide the progression and development of human cultures as time progressed.

Most of the evidence that these researchers found buried in the earth ARE REMAINS OF THE TOOLS THAT THEY MADE.

Very little remains of wood and leather relics. Some bone, tooth and antler tools are found.

Many stone tools are found because they do not decay so easily. The precise progression in technology from one tool-making material to the next is neither clear nor agreed by some workers [students of the past].

Bamboo, for instance, is not found amidst some advanced cultures in the far east although there is abundant evidence that a culture of considerable sophistication was extant there.

In short, “paleolithic” means old stone tools.
