A kettle lake is a shallow body of water formed by recedingglaciers or draining flood waters. Chunks or blocks of ice breakfree and soil, rocks, and gravel filled in around the ice. When theblock of ice melted, some of the debris falls into the hole,creating a sediment filled basin. When a kettle is filled withwater, it is called a kettle lake.
