Why were Assyrian soldiers considered brutal and cruel

The Assyrian soldiers were considered brutal and cruel because to attack cities, they tunneled under walls or climbed over them on ladders. Then they loaded tree trunks onto movable platforms and used them as battering rams to knock down city gates. Once they captured a city they set fire to the buildings and they carried away their people and goods.
