In Spartan society, being a trembler was probably the most humiliating thing that could happen to you. It happens when you’re training to be a soldier and you show any type or sign of cowardice. That’s when they force you to wear these ridiculous clothes and walk around the city with your hands tied in front of you like a helot (spartan slave). Not only was it humiliating to you, but also to your family. It sorta ruins the family name in a way. And it also creates great gossip and rumors 😉
