The ancestors of native Americans moved from Asia into the Americas simply because they were able to. They had no maps, globes or satellite imagery and for them they were simply following migrating herds of animals; these ancestor groups had no sense that they were leaving one continent and entering another because the two were effectively joined together as a single land mass. They had already led nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyles in eastern Asia and they were extending their hunting areas eastwards – we know today that they were colonising a new world, but at the time they were unaware of that.
