The name of the Roman Legio I was Germanica and it was levied probably by Gaius Julius Ceasar at 48 BCE to fight for him against Pompey during the civil war [de Bello Civili]. The name Germanica was granted in the turn of of the century for the distinguished service in Germania. In the history of the Legio 1 there was a mutiny at 13 CE, a possible disgrace in Spain at 16 CE and finally was disbanded at 70 CE by Emperor Vespasian.
