The queen of Carthage was Queen Diodo also knowns as Queen Elissar.
This is her Story:
The story is told of how Queen Elissar (Dido) landed on the shores of North Africa, having fled her own land after the death of her husband. The natives were not too happy about the newcomer, but Dido made a deal with their king, King Japon. She promised him a fair amount of money and rent for many years for as much land as she could enclose with the hide of an ox. On this land she founded the city of Carthage in 814B.C.King Japon did not feel he was being over generous in agreeing to the request. However, he had quite a suprise when he saw the piece of land and actually tried to marry Dido, declaring her exceptionally intelligent! (By the way she said no)
