The name most familiar today is the one written twt.’nx.’mn in hieroglyphs; the cartouche begins with the three signs that spell the name of the god Amun:’mn. This is always written first, even though it is pronounced later in the name (a mark of respect). Next come the bread-chick-bread combination that spells twt, meaning image or likeness. Next is the ‘nx sign, known today as ankh, “living”. Finally are three signs expressing the standard formula: ruler, high priest, king of Upper Egypt.
So the main elements of the name mean “Living image of Amun”.
