But what is significant is that in addition to the removal of foreign rule, he wanted to establish a democratic order, free from political, economic and social exploitation. Gandhiji’s attempted to guide the individual towards the goal of higher life and also solve political and social problems. He said: “The first condition of non-violence is justice all rounds in every department of life…. The votary of non-violence has to cultivate the capacity for sacrifice of the highest type in order to be free from fear. He who has not overcome all fear cannot practice ahimsa to perfection”.

Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. Nonviolent action is a technique by which people who reject passivity and submission, and who see struggle as essential, can wage their conflict without violence. Nonviolent acts of protest and persuasion are symbolic actions performed by a group of people to show their support or disapproval of something. The goal of this kind of action is to bring public awareness to an issue, persuade or influence a particular group of people, or to facilitate future nonviolent action.

The message can be directed toward the public, opponents, or people affected by the issue. Nonviolent action is not an attempt to avoid or ignore conflict. It is one response to the problem of how to act effectively in politics, especially how to wield powers effectively. It consists of acts of protest and persuasion, noncooperation and nonviolent intervention designed to undermine the sources of power of the opponent in order to bring about change. History has witnessed the success of nonviolence movement in many phases at national and international level.

All the organizations and parties are based on the core value of Gandhi’s ideology of Ahimsha (Non-violence) but in practical these are merely followed. In the present time the relevance of Non violence protest is under threat. With the changing period of time the time tested formulas and theories are under scrutiny. After a long period of time we have noticed nonviolence protest in actual sense when Anna Hazare and his team were on fasting in Ramlila Ground, New Delhi in Aug 2011 against Corruption.

Though all their demand was not realistic but certainly they are not of violence in nature moreover he was fighting for a general social cause for a common man. Instead of supporting their true spirit, Government machinery and the elected politician with many other critics have treated this entire movement with suspicious way which indicates that there is no future for such protest in coming time

Change is the law of the nature so nothing is permanent. Today’s world seems quite different from what it was fifty years ago. Unprecedented development and constantly growing cooperation among people at all levels and in all walks of life is an effect of the process of this inevitable law of change. Simultaneously, rising competition and self-interests, and resultantly men’s indulgence in violent activities is also a consequence of this very process.

Particularly in the current perspectives when dangerous clouds loom large around in the sky, and when the whole world seems gripped by many destructive tendencies, non-violence becomes more relevant than even the times of Gandhi. Nonviolence guarantees no automatic and unfailing success; no method of conflict resolution does but it really works if used in right and ethical manner. There is the urgent need of making it conducive in larger public interest with refinement and application as per the needs of time and space.
