Christopher Stancil 6/29/12 SOC/110 Creation vs. Evolution in Schools In Today’s society there are many things that parents would like to control for the well being of their child while he or she is growing up. An example of that is when you see a parent deny their kids of listen to a certain kind of music or watching a certain show. Every parent has their own idea of how they believe that there child should be raised. The same concept applies when it comes to teaching. Adults want to filter what is being taught which leads to the argument of creation vs. evolution in schools.

Some adults think it is blasphemous to teach evolution and vise versa with creation in the class room. This is an issue that has raged on for years and will be explored starting with the teachings of evolution. The study of evolution is the theory of history on this earth. Evolution teaches that humans have evolved over time from animals that live on earth. The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary gives the definition that it is “a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modifications in successive generations… Now this relates to creation vs. evolution because some people feel this is one hundred percent the truth and right. Some people believe that God does not exist and that this is more scientific and factual proof that this is how humans came to be on this earth. To support their argument in 1963 there was a case held by the Supreme Court called Murray vs. Cutlet. This case which ruled in the favor of the evolutionist stating that reading the Bible in class, praying and the teaching of creation where un constructional and they were taken out of schools.

So the end result was no more teaching of creation. The teaching of creation states that people are all here because of God. God created everything and he has given everyone life. The first man and women were created by God and then they began to create the population. Most people who believe this as fact believe in a God to begin with. So in turn the idea of evolution is false all the way. It is not credible and should never be used. People who do not believe are atheist and just do not be leave in a God or in a higher power.

Both of these arguments have their strong points and there weak points as well when you look into it as a whole. On the Creation side of things if a person does not believe in God then there probably going to have a problem with it being taught to their kid as scientifically a fact in school. A person who doesn’t believe In God does not have any tangible proof that God is real so that they can believe and say it is a fact. On the other side and to refute that argument there is no proof that evolution is real at all. It is just a theory that a man can up with about the human race.

So it is like the one refutes the other in the quest to see which one is right for a solution. In conclusion Solutions were found for all these methods and arguments. After the Supreme Court case with Murray vs. Cutlet creation can be talked about as an example of comparing religion but not as a scientifical fact. On the flip side of that argument a teacher does have the right to teach about evolution any time the teacher once too in a class setting. IN addition there are schools out now that cater to certain religious beliefs.

For instance if you feel really strong about your Christianity and you want to have the peace of mind knowing what they will be learning you can send them out to the specific school. They have Muslim schools Jewish schools and Catholic schools out that your child can go to if you as a parent would like that particular need met. In the end the parent has supreme control over how their child is being brought up. So with that being said if your pro evolution do not send you child to a religious school and if your pro creation send your child to a school that caters to that need.
