The media played a big role in “the stereotyping of Arabs”. It is one of the main reasons for people to think the way they are about Arabs. Many movies, television shows, newspapers, magazines, radios, internet websites and other types of media were talking about Arabs and Muslims and portrayed them as uneducated, uncivilized, extremists, close-minded people and they even showed them as terrorists. Hollywood; the main movie industry area in the world is mainly controlled by Jewish people. Jews have had unpleasant history with Muslims and a big percentage of Muslims are Arabs.

Some of the Jewish publishers still hold a grudge and hatred towards Arabs and Muslims, so they would present them in negative ways and show them as a ”harm” to society. Many people become ignorant and get highly influenced and judge Arabs by the things they hear or see from the media without knowing the truth or meeting an Arab or actually visiting Arab and Muslim countries. Jokes, movies, cartoons, music, blogs, and videos belittle the Arabs and Muslim cultures, which is very offensive and blunt of them.

On September 11, 2001 a group of Muslims were charged of hijacking four airplanes, and intentionally crashing two of those into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and blowing it up with explosives, causing hundreds to die. This horrific incident was one of the main reasons that made people think differently towards the Arabs with the help of the media of course. Large populations around the world started being ignorant towards Arabs and got a very wrong image of them. They were being discriminated by many people and treated in a wrong way in private and public areas, especially in airports.

Many of the Arabs that wanted to travel were treated very badly in airport securities, thinking that they were terrorists. Several Arabs went through extremely thorough searches, strip searches and delaying them at the airport and making them miss their flight. Many Arabs felt that their dignity and honor has been stripped off in minutes by airport security, and in result to that; many Arabs starting disliking Westerners and didn’t like to travel anymore. Some people that have met Arabs or Muslims might still have a bad impression due to the attitude or the lifestyle of the person.

Just like any other race or religion, Arabs and Muslims might have caused unacceptable incidents. There are definitely bad Arab or Muslim leaders – just like anywhere else in the world – that have caused a lot of chaos, but that’s not a reason to stereotype Arabs and Muslims. The world is filled with good and bad people; if there are some bad Arabs and Muslims it doesn’t mean that all Arabs and Muslims are bad people. There are many bad leaders and people all around the world, but it doesn’t mean that the whole world is bad, there is still good in the world.

Human beings make mistakes; sometimes they learn from their first mistake, sometimes they learn after repeating their mistake several times, and sometimes they don’t learn at all. Arabs go through these things, they’re humans just like everyone else. Stereotyping Arabs wont help make the world a better place, it will make it worse by building hatred and discrimination between people. People who stereotype are presenting themselves as ignorant people because they show us that they don’t know that the world is made out of good and bad.
