I don’t recall the case study noting the most international accessible news source in the world – the world wide web. This makes it extremely easy for fans all round the world to follow the standings, scores and rankings of athletes. I imagine there is quite the market for web advertising. There is a huge market for tournaments and competitions including the World Cup, Grand Slams, Olympics – in all sorts of sports. Golf, soccer, basketball, racing, hockey, running, fencing – you name it.

In addition to the actual players, games and competitions, there is a plethora of business opportunities including importing and exporting, ticket sales, apparel, merchandise, sponsorship, product endorsements, food and beverages, advertising, and so much more. Hundreds and thousands of jobs are created through the international sports scene. As mentioned, team owners, league representatives, sports associations, works and vendors at events, banking, tourism and transportation industries are just a few to name.

I think that through the globalization of sports, it paves the way for more positive international business and trade, sales, and importing and exporting. It also has the ability to help mend and build cross-border relationships between countries that may have tension. The Olympics is a great example of how the whole world can come together, and for a few short weeks at a time, can live harmoniously and peacefully. Now that is something that the global economy needs 364 days out of the year.
