Menelaos appealed to his brother king Agamemnon of Argos who held out the pillage of the Asian coast as an incentive to get the other Greek kings to join in a major expedition which included Troy. They had an initial go at the richest city Troy, failed, then set about the serious business of looting the whole coastline of Asia Minor and the islands, and when this was done came back to Troy again, and were successful.
