Why did Rome take such harsh actions against Carthage after the death oh Hannibal

Having defeated Carthage i two wars, Rome tried to stop it risingagain by imposing crippling annual fines lasting for 50 years. TheCarthaginians were such resilient traders that the paid it off in10 years with Hannibal at the helm. Hannibal had to flee to AsiaMinor from Roman assassination, but he died there. Rome continuedto harass Carthage through North African allies then fabricatedanother war, destroyed the city and sold its people into slavery asa ‘final solution’.
