Punitive Expedition – Persia sent an expedition against Eretria and Athens to stop them intervening in Asia Minor 490 BCE – turned back at Marathon.

Invasion of Peninsular Greece – persia sent a full scale invasion to Greece to bring it within its empire and bring peace to the eastern Mediterranean 480- 479 BCE – defeated in a series of sea and land battles at Salamis, Plataia, Mykale.

Continuing battles – there were sporadic battles involving Greek city-state colaitions (Delian League) led by Athens to remove Persian rule of the city-states in Asia Minor and the Islands 478-449 BCE, including battles of Euryedon 466 BCE and Cyprus 4650 BCE – the Persians, failing, agreed to peace conditional on their leaving the Greek city-states alone.
