His death takes place at the end of the Aethiopis. The significance of the “weak spot” is arguable, and the origin of the story appears to be late. Homer knows nothing about it. Moreover, since Achilles was a mortal fated to be killed by the archer god, the entry point of the arrow is, at least, a secondary issue.
