Back in Gondwana days, India and Arabia were tucked in between the old cratons of Africa and Australia. From here they drifted north to collide with the Laurasian land mass.
This was merely the latest of the form and reform shuffle of the landmasses. There were probably at least two previous assemblies. Rodinia, Pangaea and Columbia are names of previous jigsaws of the continents.
