In all those other countries he never stopped to rule themhimself but appointed Satrapes, a sort of Governors, whom he hadkilled if it was pointed out to him that anyone of them made a messof it or when any of them rebelled against him. In the places wherehe did stay a little longer he was usually only eager to adopt thecustoms that treated the king as a god and dress in the localcostumes if appropriately rich and flowing in design.
