Mohenjo-daro is the modern Sindhi name for an archeological site in Pakistan. The Sindhi are an ethnic group in the north of Pakistan. It means ‘mound of the dead’. The original name of the city at Mohenjo-daro is not known, but some evidence suggests the Dravidian name Kukkutarma, which means City of the Cock. Kukkuta means cock, as in male chicken, and rma is an affix meaning city.
