The Akkadian Empire was an ancient Semiticempire centered in the city of Akkad and its surrounding region inancient Mesopotamia which united all the indigenous Akkadianspeaking Semites and the Sumerian speakers under one rule within amultilingual empire. Akkadian is an extinct Semitic language thatwas spoken in ancient Mesopotamia and constituted the language ofthe Babylonian Empire.
