How and why did changes in womens’ roles occur overtime

Women used to just stay at home and tend to the house and children. Especially during the 20’s with Flappers, some women decided to take a stand. They received the right to vote after much protesting and with that right they were able to take a stand against men and ban alcohol. Most men back then would spend all the money he had at a bar or tavern and come home drunk and beat his wife. so the women took a stand. When WWII started many men were sent out to fight in the war and there was a shortage of men in the states. Women had to take over men’s jobs because there were not enough men around to do them all. They proved themselves then and from there they started getting more and more rights and becoming more and more a part of American society.
