The Greek city-states in Asia Minor revolted against Persian rulein 499 BCE.Mainland Greek states of Eretria and Athens intervened, convincingthe Perians that they had to bring all the Greek cities undercontrol to ensure peace and stability within their empire. Somecity-states agreed, others led by Sparta resisted, causing thePersian invasion of 480 BCE which failed.The war went on until 449 BCE when the Persians gave up and leftthe Greek cities to go back to fighting each other.
