I would first like to say that “Assyria” is a nation; “Assyrians” are the people. Assyrians came about after the Babylonians and Sumerians, which settled in the Mesopotamian area in modern Iraq due to its advantages in fertility for farming. Surrounded by desert wasteland, Mesopotamia was like a safe haven or Oasis. It is then commonly referred to as the “cradle of civilization”.
