The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay Research PaperMichael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is a modern day Epic. Chabon uses a litany of themes, tropes, and allusions throughout the novel that were pertinent in the 16th century (when our iconic Golem character was created), during World War II, and still today. Themes in literature help to connect the reader to a story and make it more relatable. They also provide the world of academia fodder to research, argue, debate, and explain the importance, or lack there of, of pieces of literature. Below are a few themes that run through The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay accompanied by a short prompt that should help you to start a line of thought that will allow you to write a highly intelligent, well-researched, sophisticated, and wholly original seven (7) to nine (9) page essay. You must use a minimum of six (6) secondary sources in support of your arguments.-Escape
This is clearly the most obvious and straight-forward theme in the novel. From the first page, we learn that Sammy wants to escape Brooklyn. We know that Josef must escape first the River Moldau,then Prague, and then Antarctica. Together, the two characters create The Escapist. Not to mention the other characters in the novel and their desperate attempts at escape. Describe how escape has factored into literature throughout the ages and specifically, how escape has influenced comic books.
