Hippocrates was born around 460 BC in Cos, an island in Greece.According to Sonarus of Ephesus, Hippocrates was the son ofHeraclides, who was a physician and his mother Praxitela was thedaughter of Tizane. Sonarus writes that Hippocrates acquiredknowledge of medicine from his grandfather and father and that hegained knowledge about other subjects from Gorgias ad Democritus.Hippocrates received his training at the asklepieion of Kos, and healso took lessons from the Thracian physician Herodicus ofSelymbria
